Explanation:

The Hollywood Police Department is required to donate at least fifteen percent (15%) of its annual asset forfeiture income to charitable organizations. See Fla. Stat. §932.7055(5)(c). The donations can only be used to support specific categories of programs allowed by the statute.  The statute vests the “local law enforcement agency” with “the discretion to determine which program(s) will receive the designated proceeds.” Id.  The Police Department has reviewed the applications for charitable donations that will be awarded in fiscal year 2016-2017, and determined that several programs are eligible for funding. The charitable programs described in this resolution satisfy the statutory categories allowed by 932.7055(5)(c). In addition, the programs described in this resolution directly advance the goals and priorities of the Police Department.
