The Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Department is honored to present the Award of Merit to the following employees:

- Lieutenant Mark Tasson

- Firefighter Robert Rayon

- Firefighter Jeffrey Bishop

Hollywood Fire Rescue & Beach Safety took part in the annual Fire Rescue-East ALS (Advanced Life Support) competition in Daytona Beach Florida last week. The annual event drew 22 ALS team from different agencies located within the State of Florida. The event is spaced out over a two day period. After the first day of competition the top three teams advance to day two. This year's team consisted of Lieutenant Mark Tasson, Firefighter Robert Rayon, and Firefighter Jeffrey Bishop. The competition is scenario based with real actors that require the teams to evaluate and treat patients accordingly.

This year's event involved teams walking into a mockup of a movie theater with an actual movie playing and about 50 actors siting in stadium style seating. Teams were dispatched to the initial call as one person not feeling well. The teams boarded a rescue and were driven to the scene. Once on scene the team was greeted with one patient not feeling well, and quickly evolved to 10 patients all presenting with different medical conditions. These events are designed to test the limits of pre-hospital medical care by putting the teams in high anxiety stressed filled situations, and this year was no exception. Hollywood Fire Rescue Team is a fairly new team with members working together for less than two years as compared to teams with 7-10 years of competing together.
