On July 11, 2001, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution No. R-2001-93, authorizing the creation of the Education Advisory Committee to obtain and review information regarding educational matters and support and promote quality education in order to make the educational opportunities in Hollywood the best available in the State of Florida.

Pursuant to Resolution No. R-2001-93, members must reside or work in Hollywood, or be known for their countywide interest in education. Further, persons of diverse perspectives shall be represented on the Education Advisory Committee, including parents of school-age or pre-school-age children, educators, business people, and persons with a background and knowledge in child development and/or education-related fields.

Resolution R-2001-93 was subsequently amended by resolutions R-2002-241, R-2003-144, R-2003-373, R-2004-203, R-2005-299, R-2007-421, and R-2009-188, R-2011-143, R-2012-186, and R-2013-088, thereby establishing the current committee composition with nine (9) Regular Members, four (4) Teacher Members, and two (2) Student Alternate members. Student Alternate members fill in for any regular member or teacher member who is absent at a meeting.

There is currently one (1) Regular Member position vacant due to the resignation of recently-appointed member Ben Sorensen, whose term expires June 30, 2018

The City Clerk provided notice to the public that positions are available and solicited interest forms from citizens to fill available vacancies on the Education Advisory Committee. There are ten (10) qualified applicants for the position.
