Explanation:
The attached Resolution seeks City Commission authorization to apply for and, if awarded, accept 2015 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program grant funds from the Broward County Sheriff's Office in order to purchase tablet computers and associated technology equipment. The Broward County Sheriff's Office has been designated as the lead agency on behalf of every Law Enforcement Agency in Broward County for the purpose of applying for and receiving Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program grant funds from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The Broward County Sheriff's Office is required to distribute these grant funds to each local Law Enforcement Agency and each distribution amount is predicated upon the population and crime statistics for each jurisdiction. The distribution amount for the City of Hollywood is approximately $46,303.00, which must be used to purchase tablet computers and associated technology equipment. The new tablets will be issued to Detectives and will aid the Department's response in efficient and effective criminal investigations, case management and criminal intelligence gathering. The new tablets will allow the Detectives to access criminal information in the field and access other agencies databases while in the field.
