Explanation:
Broward County offers municipalities the ability to enter into Interlocal Agreements (ILA) to provide for Guaranteed Partial Service for building code services to be performed by the Broward County's Building Code Services Division of the Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department.
Several cities in Broward County have opted to establish this relationship in order to accommodate periods of high demand. These periods include times of major natural events such as hurricanes. In the aftermath of a major hurricane it could become necessary for the City to enlist the assistance of the County in meeting this unexpectedly high demand for building services. Similarly, as the economy continues to improve the level of development activity is also expected to continue to increase.
At the present time, several major projects are either in progress or anticipated to apply for permits soon, these include; Port Everglades Switchgear Station, Young Circle Commons (Block 40), Parc Place (Block 58). Should most or all of these projects become active at the same time, it may become necessary to have temporary assistance (inspectors, plan reviewers, or clerical staff).
Employment positions, whether public or private, continue to be in high demand with limited availability of qualified candidates. As such, entering into this ILA is another resource for the City to tap into for qualified, already licensed personnel, similar to our existing contracts with the private industry (CAP Government and Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc.), which resources are supplemented with today.
