Body

Staff Recommends: Approval of the attached Ordinance.

Explanation:

This ordinance is being proposed to correct a scrivener/drafting error which occurred when Chapter 33.025 of the Code of Ordinances was revised on September 17, 2025.

Part of the revisions to the Code at that time were to address an inequity related to the purchase of credited service that previously existed in the Code.  The Code was amended to provide for revising how employees hired or rehired on and after October 1, 2025 would be governed, but inadvertently removed the language governing how employees hired prior to that date would be addressed.

This ordinance corrects that and reinstates the language providing for the purchase of credited service for the seven eligible employees rehired prior to October 1, 2025.

Fiscal Impact:

There is no fiscal impact associated with this item as it is to correct an error which removed language governing the process in which current eligible employees would purchase credited service time for pension purposes.  As the purchase of credited service is optional, there are no actuarial assumptions made about which employee or when an employee may make such a purchase.
