Explanation:
The City has reached a settlement with claimant, Karen LaFrance regarding workers’ compensation claims dated May 24, 2014, and April 20, 2016. On May 24, 2014, the claimant sustained injuries when she was involved in a motor vehicle accident while on duty. Claimant received treatment and returned to full duty on August 28, 2015, and the injuries sustained by claimant were found to be compensable. On April 20, 2016, claimant experienced another motor vehicle accident which resulted in additional compensable injuries.
Claimant worked in a light duty capacity until July 26, 2019, when the Hollywood Police Pension Board concluded she was eligible for an in-the-line-of-duty disability determination. She has filed multiple petitions for benefits, and the City has paid $161,564.03 on the claims to date. Authorization of this settlement would resolve the claims and allow claimant to use her health insurance to treat any conditions where the claims are the major contributing cause.
The total cost for this workers’ compensation settlement is a not to exceed amount of $30,000.00.
Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this settlement is available in the FY 2021 Operating Budget in account number 558.112006.51900.591930.000000.000.000 (Workers’ Compensation).
