Gilberto Amador, Chair of the Education Advisory Committee, will make a presentation on behalf of the Committee to recognize the teachers and school administrators mentioned herein for their recent accomplishments in the field of education. Each one has been invited to attend the meeting.
Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie was recently named the 2015 Hispanic-Serving School District (HSSD) Superintendent of the Year by the Association of Latino Administrators & Superintendents (ALAS). The mission of ALAS is to provide leadership at the national level that assures every school in America effectively serves the educational needs of all students with an emphasis on Latino youth by building capacity, promoting best practices, and transforming educational institutions. The award honored Superintendent Runcie for setting high standards for instruction and student achievement, his dedication to the students of Broward County, and for engaging the Hispanic community through BCPS initiatives, such as Mi Gente, Mi Escuela and La Universidad - Si Se Puede. The honor was announced at ALAS's First Annual Awards Gala on April 29, 2015 in Washington, D.C.
McArthur High School Principal Todd J. LaPace was selected as the Florida Association of Student Councils' (FASC) Principal of the Year for 2014-2015. Students nominate the candidates for this award and then a selection committee determines the winner on criteria including how the principal positively impacted student government, campus leadership and overall climate of co-curricular activities on campus.
