Staff Recommends:  Approval of the attached Resolution.

Explanation:

The City and the City’s Civil Service Board (“Board”) desire to appoint an attorney to serve as a legal advisor to the Board and attend meetings.

Section 33.174 of the City of Hollywood Code of Ordinances authorizes the Board and City Commission to appoint a Board attorney to serve at the pleasure of the Board and City Commission.

On July 31, 2023, a quorum of three members of the Board comprised of Mitchell Anton, Dr. Jalane Melhoun, and David Bennett interviewed three attorneys and in a unanimous vote recommended the appointment of Glen Torcivia from the law firm of Torcivia, Donlon, Goddeau & Rubin, P.A, as the Board attorney.

The Civil Service Board recommends that the City Commission authorize the execution of a retainer agreement with Glen Torcivia.

Staff recommends that the City Commission approve and authorize the execution, by the appropriate City officials, of the attached agreement with Glen Torcivia, Donlon, Goddeau & Rubin, P.A.
