Staff Recommends: Presentation

Explanation:

Requested by State Representative Marie Woodson and supported by the Hollywood City Commission, a COVID-19 Memorial would provide a space of solace and reflection as we remember those we lost to COVID-19 since March 2020. To solicit proposals for a memorial, the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts (PRCA) issued a series of two “call to artists” which resulted in one proposal supported by City staff.

Stephanie Cunningham is an exhibiting artist and Professor of Graphic Design in the Department of Visual Art and Art History at the Fort Lauderdale campus of Florida Atlantic University. Called the “Garden of We”, Ms. Cunningham utilizes meaningful symbolic choices to create a memorial that references the shared experiences of COVID-19.

Fiscal Impact:

The Presentation will not fiscally impact the City.
