Staff Recommends: Approval of the attached Resolution.

Explanation:

Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) and Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (“MPO”) completed the SR7 Multimodal Improvement Corridor Study in July 2015 that analyzed first and last mile connections for multimodal improvements along various side streets to the SR 7 transit corridor. Construction of bike/mobility improvements along Taft Street from SR 7 to North 40th Avenue were identified in this study as a necessary project.

Since then, the MPO has received federal funding and FDOT has been authorized to undertake this project identified as Financial Project #429576-9, to provide bike/mobility improvements along Taft Street from SR 7 to North 40th Avenue. The project will be administered by FDOT through its completion.

FDOT is planning to advertise for the design of the project and is requesting that the City Commission adopt a Resolution in support of the project.

Fiscal Impact:

Approval of this Resolution will not fiscally impact the City as this Resolution expresses support for the project sponsored by FDOT. However, upon completion of the project, the City will be responsible for maintaining the bike and mobility improvements within the City’s rights-of-way.
