Staff Recommends: The City of Hollywood Commission recognize May as Historic Preservation Month; and that the following projects and initiatives be recognized for their contributions to protect and conserve historic resources in the City of Hollywood:
1) 817 Tyler Street
2) 116 North 13th Avenue
3) The Hollywood Historical Society
A Proclamation in recantation of Historic Preservation Month will also be presented.
Explanation:
Historic Preservation Month is celebrated throughout the Country during the month of May. This program was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to spotlight preservation efforts by local governments and communities. This year the theme for Preservation Month 2024 is "People Saving Places."
In recognition of this distinctive time, each year the City of Hollywood Historic Preservation Board and City Commission present awards in celebration of notable preservation initiatives within Hollywood. Selections were made by the Historic Preservation Board.
The following projects and initiatives have been determined by staff and the Historic Preservation Board to be worthy of recognition:
1) 817 Tyler Street
This building is a historically designated property, originally called the "Fountain Court Apartments". The architectural style is Mediterranean Revival, built in 1934. It is a two-story multifamily building. There are three buildings surrounding a courtyard, two of them perpendicular to Tyler Street and the north building parallel to the alley, giving the appearance of a "U" shaped structure.
