Staff Recommends: Approval of the attached Resolution.
Explanation:
Section 420.9076, Florida Statutes, requires that municipalities participating in the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (“SHIP”) program establish an Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (“AHAC”). The City of Hollywood created the AHAC pursuant to Section 160.006 of the City Code of Ordinances. The AHAC’s purpose is to review affordable housing policies and recommend strategies to facilitate the creation and preservation of affordable housing while balancing the need to maintain property values.
The Committee must consist of at least one elected official and representatives from at least six statutory categories related to affordable housing.
Currently, there are five vacancies on the AHAC that require appointment.
Additionally, there is a vacant Alternate Locally Elected Official position due to the retirement of Linda Anderson from the City Commission, which needs to be filled.
Previously appointed Alternate Members shall no longer be categorized by a specific representation category and may serve in any qualified category as needed. This Resolution updates and supersedes prior language to remove the listing of specific categories for Alternate Members, recognizing that they may meet qualifications under multiple categories and may serve in any applicable category should a vacancy arise.
Fiscal Impact:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. AHAC operates in an advisory capacity and members serve without compensation.
