Explanation:
The Department of Public Utilities (“Department”) desires to rehabilitate the Cake Belt Conveyor System. The Belt Conveyors are critical components in the Wastewater Treatment Process, serving as key links before final disposal. A portion of the return activated sludge is removed; this portion, known as waste activated sludge, is sent to the Belt Filter Presses for dewatering. The resulting dewatered sludge, referred to as cake, is conveyed via the belt cake conveyor to be pumped to the reactor pumps for final treatment and disposal. If the conveyor system fails, the final sludge removal process will also fail, leading to violations of FDEP regulations. In addition, excessive solids would accumulate in the oxygenation reactor trains and the clarifiers, disrupting the treatment process and potentially endangering public health and safety
The Department Director and the Chief Procurement Officer recommend that the City Commission approve and authorize the issuance of a Purchase Order to Conveyor Consulting and Rubber Corporation for the rehabilitation of two Belt Cake Conveyors in an amount up to $321,237.16.
Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this project was included in the amended FY 2026 Capital Improvement Plan and is available in account number 442.409903.53600.552240.000704.000.000.
No new staff are needed as a result of this resolution.
