Explanation:
In August 2024, the City's Engineering, Transportation and Mobility Division applied for funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program to develop a Vision Zero Action Plan (VZAP). In November 2024, the City was awarded $200,000.00, requiring a 25% local match of $50,000, for a total project cost of $250,000.00. The City will procure a consultant or enter into an interlocal agreement with the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to complete the VZAP by November 2028.
Vision Zero is built on the belief that traffic deaths are preventable and should not result in fatal or life-changing injuries. As such, the VZAP will use data-driven strategies to identify and prioritize high-risk locations with the goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries for all roadway users and will be coordinated with the MPO's Broward Regional Comprehensive Safety Action Plan.
Fiscal Impact:
Grant funding for this Vision Zero Action Plan (VZAP) project requires amending the approved FY 2026 Operating Budget as detailed in Exhibit 1, subject to approval of this resolution.
