Explanation:
The City Commission approved Resolutions R-2003-387 and R-2014-076 which authorized the appropriate City officials to execute agreements with Motorola, Inc. for the acquisition of appropriate and compatible subscriber units (handheld radios) and accessories for public safety (Police and Fire) and non-public safety (Local Government) use. These radios were purchased to work with Broward County's current radio infrastructure. That infrastructure includes a 10-site system located around the County, and a 3-site system located in the City of Hollywood. The 3-site Radio system infrastructure was purchased by, and is currently owned and managed by Broward County. The City of Hollywood, at the time, provided the County with use of its tower and facilities to house Broward's equipment.
As of early 2019 the County had planned on replacing both the 10-site county wide, and 3-site Hollywood systems with one 16-site system spanning the entire County, and with two towers located in Hollywood, one in the eastern area of the City and the other in the western area of the City. The easternmost site would have provided coverage for the southeast region of Broward County, including Hollywood, Dania Beach, and Hallandale Beach. The County has since decided to instead build 15 sites, inclusive of the one tower in western Hollywood, and has asked the City to build and manage its own radio site instead of a County operated site in eastern Hollywood.
