Staff Recommends: Approval of the attached Resolution.

Explanation:

The Broward Commuter Rail (“BCR”) project is a 27-mile commuter rail transit project from Aventura in Miami-Dade County to Deerfield Beach in Broward County, anticipated to be funded primarily through the Federal Transit Administration. The Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) and Broward County are jointly addressing is passenger station location as a component of the overall BCR Project.

The station refinement process for the entire tri-county area (Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade) has evolved over 16 years and the number of potential stations has been refined from nearly 100 station areas to 26 and later down to six based on various criteria.

One of the locations identified for a station is in the City of Hollywood between Tyler and Taylor Streets and staff recommends a Resolution of Support be submitted to the FDOT and the County to assist the County in providing a stronger competitive FTA New/Small Starts federal funding application for the BCR project.

Fiscal Impact:

Currently there are no funding implications. Future funding requirements will be addressed through interlocal agreements once the scope of work is more defined.
