Explanation:
During the second week of August, members of the City of Hollywood's Beach Safety Division took part in the annual United States Lifesaving Association's (USLA) National Championships in Virginia Beach, Florida. The competition is meant to encourage lifeguards to maintain their level of fitness, an integral part of the job of lifesaving. The event consists of competition in swimming, rescue, paddling, running and rowing races with over 1000 male and female competitors from around the country. The City of Hollywood's Beach Safety Division has participated in these championships for the past twenty-five (25) years.
The Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Department is honored to present Certificates of Achievement to the following employees for winning a total of: (8) national championships, (8) silver medals and (2) bronze medals.

Also, on July 25th and July 26th, the City of Hollywood's Beach Safety Division, along with about 500 professional lifeguards, took part in the James "Mac" McCarthy Southeast Regional Lifeguard Championships in Flagler Beach, Florida.
