Explanation:

The Hollywood City Commission seeks to show its support for the renaming of Broward County’s North Beach Park located within the City of Hollywood after long-time Hollywood resident, Commissioner Suzanne Gunzburger, who passed away on March 1, 2026.

Gunzburger began her political career in 1982 when she was elected to the Hollywood City Commission, and served until 1992 when she was elected to the Broward County Commission.  She was then re-elected to the Broward County Commission in 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010 and served as both Vice Mayor and Mayor.

During her time in office, she was a fierce advocate for efficient and ethical government, protection of natural and historical resources, and the provision of needed services for families and children.

Over her more than four decades of public service, Commissioner Gunzburger was recognized with numerous awards for her significant and varied contributions to Broward County and the City of Hollywood.

The Hollywood City Commission supports the request for the Broward County Commission to rename North Beach Park located in the City of Hollywood to honor the life and legacy of Suzanne Gunzburger.
