Explanation:
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts ("PRCA") and the Department of Design Construction Management ("DCM") determined the need for improvements and renovations of park properties within the community to meet a variety of parks and recreation interests, and the Florida Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture 2026-2027 Cultural Facilities ("DAC-CF") grant was available for renovation, new construction, or acquisition of cultural facilities.
The DAC-CF grant seeks $500,000.00. The funds would support construction of a new 3,500 square foot environmental center and outdoor classrooms at Sunset Park.
The grant requires a 2:1 match, meaning the City must contribute $1,000,000.00, which will come from the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Capital Improvement Project Funds.
Fiscal Impact:
If approved, grant funding in the amount of $500,000.00 will be appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2026 Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Plan for the construction of Sunset Park Nature Center as detailed in Exhibit 1, subject to approval of this resolution.
Matching funds will be identified and allocated as needed in the Capital Improvement Plan.
