Explanation:
Section 420.9076, Florida Statutes, requires that municipalities participating in the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program establish an Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC). The City of Hollywood created the AHAC pursuant to Section 160.06 of the City Code of Ordinances. The AHAC's purpose is to review affordable housing policies, recommend strategies to facilitate the creation and preservation of affordable housing, and ensure that housing needs are balanced with maintaining property values.

The Committee must consist of at least one elected official and representatives from at least six (6) statutory categories related to affordable housing. Regular appointments and alternate appointments are necessary to maintain quorum and ensure the uninterrupted operation of the Committee.

Currently, there are ten (10) vacancies on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee that require appointment. To support the Committee's continuity and quorum, Community Development is also seeking to create and appoint three (3) Alternate Members. Alternate Members will be authorized to:

* Fill vacancies within their designated categories or, if eligible, within other applicable categories;
* Serve as voting members in the absence of Regular Members.

To ensure consistency and the effective operation of the AHAC, members will serve staggered three-year terms. Members may be reappointed for subsequent terms pursuant to Chapter 37 of the City's Code of Ordinances.
