Explanation:
The FDOT Bridge inspection report dated February 10, 2021, for the Johnson Street Bridge ("Bridge"), located between North 30th Road and North 31st Avenue determined the bridge was functionally obsolete.
On February 21, 2023, the Department of Development Services, Engineering, Transportation and Mobility Division issued an Authorization to Proceed (ATP-01) in the amount of $33,899.30 to the Corradino Group, Inc., ("CG") to conduct a feasibility study and develop a conceptual design to widen the Bridge and address the obsolete functionality.
The feasibility study results indicated that, due to the limited design life of the existing structure, a complete replacement of the bridge was necessary to widen it.
On October 18, 2023, the City Commission authorized CG to complete the final design, permitting, and construction specifications for the replacement and widening of the existing Bridge in an amount not to exceed $589,008.78 (ATP-02), increasing the total authorized amount to $622,908.08 (R-2023-324).
During the design phase, it was realized that the City's existing utilities that cross alongside of the Bridge would be impacted and therefore need to be relocated. It was determined that the best and most efficient option for the City was to increase the design scope to include relocation of the City's utilities.
