Explanation:
Secured by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the City was awarded a $500,000.00 FY 2024 Community Project Funding/ Congressionally Directed Spending Appropriation for the Coastal Resiliency Phase IV East-West (E/W) Streets Resiliency and Hardening Project. To receive the award, staff submitted a Community Project Funding grant application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in February 2025 on behalf of the Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA"). The funded improvements will mitigate flooding along the local street connectors and improve sunny day flooding by raising the east-west streets from Harrison Street to Magnolia Terrace, between State Road A1A and the Broadwalk. The project also involves harmonizing and creating safe access to and from State Road A1A.
The resiliency and flood management improvements are a part of the Phase IV E/W Undergrounding of Overhead Utilities and Streetscape Beautification capital improvement project included in the CRA's Capital Improvement Plan, approved in September 2020.
