Explanation:
Section 420.9076, Florida Statutes, requires that municipalities participating in the State Housing Initiatives Partnership ("SHIP") program establish an Affordable Housing Advisory Committee ("AHAC"). The City of Hollywood created the AHAC pursuant to Section 160.06 of the City Code of Ordinances. The AHAC's purpose is to review affordable housing policies, recommend strategies to facilitate the creation and preservation of affordable housing, and ensure that housing needs are balanced with maintaining property values.
The Committee must consist of at least one elected official and representatives from at least six (6) statutory categories related to affordable housing.
Currently, there are six (6) vacancies on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee that require appointments.
Additionally, there are two (2) alternate positions that require appointments.
To ensure continuity and effective operation of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, it is proposed that the City Commission revise the term end dates of committee members from June of their respective year of expiration to the end of March, aligning all AHAC terms with the City's proposed February appointment cycle and creating a consistent and predictable appointment schedule.
When multiple qualified applicants are eligible for a statutory category, additional applicants may be appointed to alternate positions to ensure vacancies can be promptly filled and statutory requirements are maintained.
