Explanation:
The Public Utilities Department ("Department") owns and maintains a complex stormwater system that includes thousands of catch basins, miles of drainage pipes and exfiltration trenches, outfalls, swales, retaining ponds, and ten stormwater pump stations within the City's corporate limits. The Department plans, improves, maintains, operates, and repairs this system to safeguard public health and safety.
A Stormwater Master Plan ("SWMP") is necessary to: effectively comply with regulatory requirements at federal, state, county, and local levels; address sea level rise and storm surge concerns; provide a high level of service to residents; accommodate growth and economic development; and protect public health, safety, and the environment. The Department has developed an updated SWMP to fulfill these responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
The SWMP recommends long-term large capital improvement projects ("CIP"), urgent interim CIP projects, and additional Renewal and Replacement ("R&R") projects. These projects were also presented at the Stormwater Master Plan Implementation Workshop on April 16, 2025.
A key component of the Interim Stormwater Project budget is the strategic allocation of funding for fast-tracked infrastructure needed to bridge the gap between the SWMP and other major City of Hollywood capital initiatives.
