Explanation:
Due to low ground elevations, climate change, sea level rising, and king tide events, the Lakes in the City of Hollywood have experienced frequent tidal flooding in recent years, including dry days. On November 2, 2022, during the Commission meeting, the Commission requested for the Department of Public Utilities to perform a field evaluation during the next king tide event, analyze the causes, present the findings to the Commission, and provide a report of recent improvements and future action plans.
On November 7, 2022, the Department of Public Utilities assembled two groups to walk through the Lakes during the king tide, in the area bounded by Johnson Street, N. 13th Avenue, S. 13th Avenue, Washington Street and the Intracoastal Waterway. Detailed analysis was conducted for each intersection encountering tidal flooding. Based on the analysis, deficiencies were identified and future actions, including proposed improvements and proactive maintenance, will be presented to the Commission.
