In the summer of 2012, Beach Maintenance staff lost their facility at the Johnson Street Garage to make way for the Margaritville Development and have been temporarily relocated to an old Fire Station on AIA. This Fire Station will soon be torn down to construct the new Nevada Street Parking Garage. A plan has been devised to relocate Beach Maintenance staff to two (2) temporary locations. In Phase I (which is a separate project) staff will be relocated to a trailer that the City will purchase and place on the FDOT parking lot under the Hollywood Boulevard Bridge. The trailer will accommodate offices, a break room, some storage and restrooms/showers for staff. The parking lot will be fenced and security cameras and lighting will be added. In this project which is Phase II, an enclosed Truck Wash Building will be built behind the Hollywood Beach Community Center on Bougainvilla Terrace so equipment can be washed directly after leaving the beach and before returning to the compound under the bridge.
City staff held meetings to review the scope of the project with the Boards of the Summit Condominium Association, the Stratford Condominium Association and the Hollywood Beach Civic Association. This project has been coordinated with both the Beach CRA and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts.
