Body

Staff Recommends: Presentation of Proclamation.

Explanation:

Florida reported 3,736,521 tons of food waste in 2024.  Florida’s 2024 population was approximately 23.37 million, which works out to about 0.16 ton-or 320 pounds-of food waste per person annually.

Applying that rate locally:

Broward County                                          2,037,472                                          ≈ 325,700 tons

City of Hollywood                                          159,073                                          ≈ 25,400 tons

(The population figures are from the U.S. Census Bureau.)

Susan Steinhauser, Co-chair, Climate Reality Project, North Broward & Palm Beach County, FL Chapter, will be accepting the proclamation.

Fiscal Impact:

Approval of the presentation of the proclamation will not fiscally impact the City.
