Explanation:
The African American Advisory Council’s purpose is to keep the Commission and staff informed as to the needs and concerns of African Americans in the City of Hollywood.
The Council is dedicated to being proactive in the organization and structuring of economics, employment, housing, education and cultural awareness in order to empower the African American community, as well as the City of Hollywood at large.
Members of the AAAC must reside or work in the City of Hollywood, be of African American descent, and/or have extensive knowledge and interest in the African American community.
Currently, the regular members of the AAAC are Bennie Barnes, Richert Cardenas, Joann Fullington-Reese, Henry Graham, Richard Louis, Octavia Mills, Joanne Taitt, and Nila Williams. There is one vacant position which was not filled.
Regular members Allain McGuffie and Basil Phillips were removed due to absences.
Regular members Khadji Gregory-Faal and Jacqueline Grant resigned from the AAAC prior to June 30, 2024 when their terms expire.
There are currently 10 vacant regular positions on the AAAC.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
