Explanation:

The Florida Division of Emergency Management administers the Federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (“HMGP”) which provides federal aid to supplement state and local hazard mitigation efforts.

The City is a member of the Local Mitigation Strategic Working Group (“LMSG”) through Broward County. The LMSG facilitates the submission of eligible HMGP projects to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

The City plans to submit a project application to the 2025 HMGP for a backup power generator in the approximate amount of $850,000.00. The project will install a generator to provide power backup for the second floor of the library building, ensuring the continued provision of critical services by the Department of Development Services and enabling this area to serve as the City’s backup Emergency Operations Center if needed. The grant requires a 25% match of approximately $212,500.00.

Fiscal Impact:

A future budget amendment will be required to recognize the grant award and allocate the grant match if notification of an award is received.
