Staff Recommends: Presentation of Proclamation.
Explanation:
Mental illnesses are biologically based medical problems that disrupt a person’s daily functioning. Approximately one in five adults will be diagnosed with a mental illness in their life, and only one out of two people with a serious form of mental illness will seek treatment.
The National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Broward provides education and support programs to the community to help over 3,500 people with mental illness and their families in our community each year.
NAMI Broward advocates for improved healthcare, housing, criminal justice rehabilitation, meaningful job opportunities for people with mental illness, and supporting public education programs designed to help eliminate the pervasive stigma surrounding severe mental illness.
The Proclamation will be accepted by Jennifer Luciani, Vice Chair, NAMI Broward Advocacy Group.
The Proclamation will be presented at the May 18, 2022 City Commission Meeting.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this Presentation will not fiscally impact the City.
