Explanation:
The City of Hollywood's Education Advisory Committee was created to help promote and support quality educational opportunities in the City and seeks to make sure the opportunities in Hollywood are among the best available in the State of Florida. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, except for August and December, when the Committee is in recess.
Education Advisory Committee members must reside, work or attend public school in Hollywood, and be known for their Countywide interest in education. Further, persons of diverse perspectives shall be represented on the Education Advisory Committee, including parents of school-age or pre-school-age children, educators, business people, and persons with a background and knowledge in child development and/or education-related fields.
The Education Advisory Committee may consist of fifteen total members: four Teacher Members, nine Regular Members, and two Student Alternate Members.
The current make-up of the Committee is as follows:
Teacher Members: Carole Fisher term expiring 6/30/2023, Vincent Newman, Ellen Suppa, and one vacancy due to the resignation of Catherine Palmer.
Regular Members: Roland Garcia, Jacqueline Grant, Rodney Velez and six vacant positions due to the resignation of Sophia Mukamal and the removal of Ellen Davis, Gabrielle Resnick, Roxana Tumbaco, Patricia Gunson, and Hailey Heeraman.
Student Members: Wyatt Lohse and Brooke Manasse. There are no vacant Student Member positions.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
