Explanation:
The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project continues to be successful, however, the mosaic mural program on the Beach has not experienced the same success. Staff has been advised by prospective applicants that the Mural Only Program's (MOP) mosaic mural program for the Beach District does not provide adequate funding for the cost of professionally designed and created mosaic murals.

At this time, the MOP offers a 50% reimbursement grant up to a maximum reimbursement amount of $10,000.00 per property in the Beach District for costs including design, labor, materials, and equipment associated with the creation and installation of a mosaic murals on the exterior surface of buildings and structures, or elsewhere on a property that is visible from the public right-of-way. The cost of a large professional exterior mosaic mural cost is typically tens of thousands if over one hundred thousand dollars. Due to the cost, CRA staff recommends that the MOP program in the Beach District, will benefit by utilizing an application process that offers a 50% reimbursement grant up to a maximum reimbursement amount of $25,000.00 per property for costs associated with the creation and installation of a mosaic mural on the exterior surface of buildings and structures, or elsewhere on a property that is visible from the public right-of-way, including design, labor, materials and equipment.

The MOP encourages private enhancements and beautification that assists in the elimination of slum and blight, and further promote redevelopment in the CRA Districts.
