Explanation:
Recommendation to the City Commission to approve and authorize the appropriate City officials to apply for and receive financial assistance from the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s BRIC Grant Program.
The grant amount requested is $1,115,257.00 for improvements to the Southern Regional Wastewater Plant’s bar screen system. The City will provide required matching funds of 25% totaling $371,753.00.
The Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant serves Hollywood and several neighboring municipalities and unincorporated areas in Broward County.
The project addresses critical resiliency and rehabilitation needs for the plant’s influent screening system. If these needs are left unaddressed, future extreme weather could trigger more overflows, regulatory breaches, and expensive emergency repairs.
The Department recommends that the City Commission approve and authorize the appropriate City Officials to execute the BRIC Grant Application for the Bar Screen System project in a total amount not to exceed $1,487,010.00.
Fiscal Impact:
If awarded, $1,115,257.00 in grant funding will be appropriated in the FY 2027 Operating and Capital Improvement Plan for this project.
