Explanation:

Hollywood resident Chris Hixon was a 27-year Navy veteran who served in both Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. For several years, Mr. Hixon proudly served as Athletic Director of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL when he was tragically killed during the school shooting that took place on February 14, 2018.

On August 27, 2025, Commissioner Callari proposed naming the walking path at Stanley Goldman Memorial Park as the “Chris Hixon Memorial Trail” in his honor. The City Commission unanimously supported the proposed naming.

The Naming Policy provides that any proposed naming that is initiated by a City Commissioner shall be placed on a publicly noticed City Commission agenda for consideration without having to first be evaluated by the Naming Review Committee.

Fiscal Impact:

Approval of this Resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
