Explanation:
Six Sigma is a set of techniques and tools for process improvement that was introduced by American Engineer, Bill Smith, while working at Motorola in 1980. Six Sigma strategies seek to improve the quality of the output of a process by identifying and removing the causes of defects and minimizing variability in the processes.
Broward College, which actively promotes employee empowerment and collaboration, partnered with the City of Hollywood’s Department of Public Works and trained nineteen participants, from various departments/offices, on Six Sigma White Belt. The training took place at the Parks and Recreation Office on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.
Participants learned about the discipline, the various Six Sigma Belts, quantitative approach of setting up a systems and process for the improvement of service, employee morale and financial methods that provides organizations tools for improvement.
All nineteen participants completed a project in class, and were also tasked by the Director of Public Works to complete a “low-hanging fruit” project pertaining to their individual department/office.
Participants stated that they very much enjoyed learning through this program and plan to continue on obtaining other Six Sigma Belts while using measures they learned.
