Explanation:

The Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) is currently in the final phase of construction of the Complete Streets Improvement Project for the US1/State Road 7 corridor from Pembroke Road to Sheridan Street.  After completion of the FDOT project, the City will begin the landscaping and beautification design of the corridor with City funds. However, FDOT has a Beautification Grant opportunity where the City can receive up to $200,000.00 in contribution per application towards the project.

FDOT has already provided grant authorizations letters to submit two grant applications for the Pembroke Road to Young Circle and from Young Circle to Sheridan Street portions of the project. Both Grant applications will be submitted on October 2, 2023.  The grant submissions require the City Commission to authorize appropriate City officials to apply for the Beautification Grant from the Florida Department of Transportation and, if awarded, to accept the grant, and enter into a Beautification Grant, Landscape Construction, and Maintenance Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Hollywood and the Florida Department of Transportation.

Fiscal Impact:

If awarded, the FDOT Beautification Grant will reimburse up to $200,000.00 for design of the corridor project.
