Body

Staff Recommends:  Approval of the attached Ordinance.

Explanation:

The Emerald Hills Safety Enhance District (“District”) Board conducted a resident survey to determine the support for extending the district and adjusting rates to keep pace with the rising costs. The results demonstrated overwhelming support from residents for both extending the board and implementing a future rate increase.

In Section 13, of Ordinance No. O-2020-06 it provides that District shall automatically be sunset on August 30, 2027, unless other extended.  Unless the City Commission takes action before August 30, 2027, the District will be sunsetted on that date and the District will cease to exist.  The District Board recommends extending the sunsetting date for 10 years to August 30, 2037.

Ordinance No. O-2017-13 Section 6 established the non-ad valorem assessment shall be limited to the sum of $250.00 per property per year. The District Board recommends increasing the non-ad valorem assessment maximum to the sum of $500.00 per property per year.

Fiscal Impact:

Approval of this Ordinance will not fiscally impact the City.
