Staff Recommends: Approval of the Attached Resolution.
Explanation:
The City of Hollywood realizes the effects of climate change, sea level rise and the need for adaptation. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection awarded the City a Florida Resilient Coastlines Program Grant in the amount of $400,000.00. This is for Hollywood Marina Boat Ramp Improvements. The improvements will include raising the top of the boat ramp to elevation 4 NAVD, including approach and seawalls to prevent repeated high tide breaches into the adjacent roadway and also raise the elevation of the existing parking lot.
Because the City has multiple buildings and other facilities which it needs to maintain on a regular basis, and the expertise of a professional engineering firm is sometimes required, the Department of Development Services solicited a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to create a pool of civil engineering design firms. On December 19, 2018, through Resolution R-2018-400, the City Commission authorized the negotiation and execution of contracts with the five highest ranked firms, one of which was Craven Thompson and Associates Inc.
City staff reviewed the program for the project with Craven Thompson and Associates Inc. A copy of the engineer's proposal is attached and the total estimated design costs for the project is $98,450.00. The engineer will be authorized to complete the work in phases, at each stage of the project, through a series of ATPs (Authorization to Proceed). City staff recommends approval to expend design fees for the project in an amount not to exceed $98,450.00.
