Explanation:
The City of Hollywood's African American Advisory Council (AAAC) was created to keep the City Commission and staff informed regarding the needs and concerns of African Americans in the City of Hollywood. The Council is dedicated to being proactive in the organization and structuring of economics, employment, housing, education, and cultural awareness to empower the African American community and the City of Hollywood at large.
African American Advisory Council members must reside or work in the City of Hollywood, be of African American descent, and/or have extensive knowledge and interest in the African American community.
The African American Advisory Council may consist of 13 members.
The current make-up of the Council is as follows:
Regular Members: Joann Fullington-Reese, Basil Phillips, Joanne Taitt, Chanel Williams, and Nila Williams.
Members removed due to absences: Lauren Alford, Richert Cardenas, Jamil Richards, and Myrlande Simeon.
Member removed by City Commission: Mateo Watson.
Members who resigned prior to their term expiration: Mary Mites-Campbell, whose term was set to expire June 30, 2026, and Elma Pierre, whose term was set to expire June 30, 2027.
There is one vacant position which was not filled.
There are currently eight vacant regular positions on the African American Advisory Council.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
