Explanation:
The Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is owned by Broward County and operated by the Broward County Aviation Department.
With the recent opening of the south runway at the airport, the Federal Aviation Administration implement a new procedure to route aircrafts using the north runway in a manner that brings aircrafts closer to some of the neighborhoods in Hollywood. The City has received reports from neighbors living in the northeastern section of the City that aircrafts are flying over their homes.
On February 18, 2015 Broward County Mayor Tim Ryan hosted a public meeting along with BCAD Airport Director, Kent George, who provided a presentation on the Noise Program underway at the airport. During the meeting, the Airport Director explained that BCAD will be conducting a Noise Study of the airport in 18 months and Broward County Aviation Department will also be starting the Airport Master Plan process within the next year.
Hollywood residents affected by the airport's noise are encouraged to participate in the County's noise study and airport master planning process through attendance at the various public meetings and workshops.
The City supports BCAD's current efforts to address noise with BCAD's Quieter Sky Reports, Airport Noise Abatement Committee and Aircraft Noise Complaint line.
