The Goal Was To Produce A Visionary Transit Oriented Development Master Plan.
Body
Staff Recommends: Presentation of FAU Students at the May 7, 2014 City Commission meeting.
Explanation:
The approximately three quarter mile-long by two block-wide area from Hollywood Boulevard to Johnson Street was the subject of this exercise. With the official designation of SR7-441 as a Transit Oriented Corridor, the task was to identify areas along the corridor for Transit Oriented Development, defined here as residential and commercial mixed-use and public space design that supports a potentially self-supportive, less automobile-dependent, and a more pedestrian, bicycle and alternative transportation friendly environment. Various redevelopment scenarios along the corridor have been explored, with emphasis given to the intersection at Hollywood Boulevard. The architectural and functional proposals suggested at these four corners were to help reinforce the intersection as a Broward County designated Gateway Mobility Hub, and to provide a landmark for the new gateway into Hollywood.
