Explanation:

National Economic Development Week is scheduled for May 12 -16, 2025. This week provides an opportunity to highlight the programs, best practices, and the role economic development professionals play in positively impacting our community.

One of the strategic focus areas in the City’s Strategic Plan is Economic Vitality. The City’s Office of Communications, Marketing and Economic Development (CMED) is committed to implementing a holistic and sustainable economic growth strategy that results in a robust economy and healthy neighborhoods.  The team is focused on business expansion, retention and recruitment, entrepreneurship, work skills training, and corridor redevelopment initiatives and programs. Staff works in concert with local groups dedicated to the enhancement of commerce in the City including the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development, CareerSource Broward, Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency, Downtown Hollywood Business Association, the Johnson Street Business Association and the Hollywood Beach Business Association.

This year, the celebration of National Economic Development Week is happening during the city’s centennial year, so it’s a special time to highlight the many accomplishments, initiatives, and special programs.

The proclamation will be accepted by Joann Hussey, Director of the Office of Communications, Marketing and Economic Development along with Marie Suarez, Executive Director of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Fiscal Impact:

Approval of this Proclamation will not fiscally impact the City.
