Explanation:
The City of Hollywood is in the process of approving a First Interlocal Agreement and Second Amendment with Broward County for Optional County Services. This agreement will cover the disposal of Municipal Solid Waste ("MSW"), Recyclables, Bulk Trash, Yard Waste, and Commercial MSW. The anticipated effective date for the agreement is October 23, 2024.

There is an urgent need for immediate waste disposal services to manage waste effectively until the new agreement takes effect. Delays in the approval process may hinder the City's ability to provide timely waste management solutions, which could impact community health and safety.

The Department of Public Works recommends utilizing Wheelabrator South Broward Inc., a company already contracted by Broward County, for temporary landfill services during this interim period. This arrangement will ensure that waste disposal services remain uninterrupted and continue to meet the community's needs.

Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this purchase order is available in the FY 25 Operating Budget in account 445.520101.53400.543600.000000.000.000 and 445.520101.53400.543610.000000.000.000, and will be budgeted in subsequent fiscal years' operating budgets subject to approval and adoption by the City Commission.
