Explanation:

The City entered into the Memorandum of Understanding Regarding Collaborative Study and Subsequent Development of an Integrated Solid Waste Recycling System (“MOU”).

The MOU provides for the establishment of a Working Group comprised of elected officials from Broward County, and the municipal signatories of the MOU must decide the number of municipal members of the Working Group, how to select them, and who they will be, as well as make other collective decisions on behalf of municipalities as the issues under the MOU are reviewed.

The MOU also provides for a Technical Group, comprised of staff-level persons to review issues and make recommendations to the Working Group, and any municipality that elects to do so may have a representative on the Working Group.

R-2019-335 adopted by the City Commission on November 6, 2019, appointed Mayor Josh Levy as the City’s representative and Commissioner Traci Callari as the City’s alternate representative, and former Commissioner Peter Hernandez as the City’s second alternate representative.  The City Commission also appointed Peter Bieniek, Director of Public Works to the Technical Group of the MOU.

The City Commission must appoint an elected official to represent the City to replace former Commissioner Peter Hernandez as the second alternate representative.

Fiscal Impact:

Approval of this Resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
