Explanation:

The Public Works Department working with the Police Department, seeks to expand the use of Automatic Vehicle Location (“AVL”) technology to the Police Department's fleet. AVL is a GPS technology that provides real-time tracking capabilities to ensure officer safety. AVL’s were deployed on a portion of the Police fleet for a complimentary trial period that proved to be useful. The expansion of the AVL’s will be procured through piggybacking Sourcewell Contract #090122-WHL at a discounted annual cost of $360.00 per vehicle.

The maximum annual cost could be $144,000 per year, which allows for AVL in 400 Police vehicles at $360.00 annually.  Currently, this equipment is operationally in approximately 200 vehicles and the program will continue to expand as new vehicles are purchased.

Fiscal Impact:

A portion of the funding for this service is available in the FY 2025 Operating Budget in account number 001.204401.52100.531170.000000.000.000 and will be budgeted in subsequent fiscal years’ operating budget in account number 557.519901.51900.564520.000000.000.000 subject to approval and adoption by the City Commission.
