Explanation:
StormReady is a severe weather readiness accreditation program founded and managed by the National Weather Service (NWS). Through an extensive review of a municipal or county government's internal and external communication systems and comprehensive emergency management plans, the NWS determines whether it considers a municipality or county to be capable of effectively managing a severe weather incident in its respective jurisdiction, as well as preparing and protecting its residents. Once a municipality or county receives the StormReady designation, it may be eligible for residential flood insurance discounts through the National Flood Insurance Program. The StormReady designation also is very prestigious as less than 2,200 agencies in the United States have attained it. Hollywood is only the second municipality in Broward to receive the StormReady community designation.
