Explanation:

The City is partnering with Broward County, Fort Lauderdale, and Pompano Beach to financially support a cooperative study being conducted by the United States Geological Survey ("USGS"), which will evaluate projected changes to the spatial distribution of salinity within the surficial aquifer of the urbanized areas of Broward County. The study will reveal important water quality information related to future water supply, including predicted saltwater intrusion into Broward County.

The project is dependent upon community-wide participation via a division of program costs among all participating municipalities. In order to share the benefits of the study results, each of these municipalities, including the City, is required to enter into an Interlocal Agreement with Broward County. The overall cost-sharing of the total study amount of $ 1,049,232.00 breaks down as follows: 50% funded by USGS; 25% funded by Broward County; 8.33% each funded by the cities of Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, and Pompano Beach, in the total amount of $87,436.00 each over a four-year period, in an annual amount not to exceed $29,661.50, as more specifically set forth in the Exhibit "A" of the Interlocal Agreement.
