Explanation:
The attached Resolution seeks City Commission authorization to apply for and, if awarded, accept 2014 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program grant funds from the Broward County Sheriff's Office in order to purchase tablet computers and associated technology equipment. The Broward County Sheriff's Office has been designated as the lead agency on behalf of every Law Enforcement Agency in Broward County for the purpose of applying for and receiving Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program grant funds from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The Broward County Sheriff's Office is required to distribute these grant funds to each local Law Enforcement Agency and each distribution amount is predicated upon the population and crime statistics for each jurisdiction. The distribution amount for the City of Hollywood is approximately $48,059.00, which must be used to purchase tablet computers and associated technology equipment. The new computers desired to purchase provides Detectives in the field prompt and efficient linkage to various driver license and mug shot databases as well as immediate access to intelligence information and records management system data.
