Explanation:

 

The City Commission, on December 1, 2021, by a 5/7 majority, voted to exempt itself from the naming procedural requirements for the naming of the playground at Mara Berman Guilanti Park.

 

Yandy Chirino joined the Hollywood Police Department in 2017 and served with pride and professionalism.  Officer Yandy Chirino had an incredible work ethic and throughout his short career was recognized multiple times for his outstanding work.  He received five commendations and was Officer of the Month for June 2020.

 

On October 17, 2021 at around 10:30 PM, Officer Chirino was shot while protecting his community.  On October 18, 2021 shortly after 1:00 AM Officer Chirino made the ultimate sacrifice and died as a result of his injuries. Officer Yandy Chirino was only 28 years old and will be remembered for his selfless actions and his sacrifice.

 

The City Commission desires to honor Officer Yandy Chirino by naming the playground at Mara Berman Giulianti Park, located at 4151 North Hills Drive, as “Officer Yandy Chirino Playground.”

 

 

Fiscal Impact:

Approval of this Resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
